Last day in St. Lucia

We arranged the day before for one of the hotel drivers that we’d become friendly with, Dennis, to take us to Anse Chastenet – a beautiful beach on the north side of Soufriere. Before dropping us off, Dennis gave us a wave and a piece of advice: keep walking to the end of the beach, cross a little bridge and follow the short 10 minute trail to a more secluded beach called Anse Mamin. Happily, we followed his tip and were rewarded with a whole beachfront to ourselves, our own private paradise. We spent the morning snorkeling, and afternoon enjoying tropical drinks under a thatched hut to wait out a brief rain shower.

Later that afternoon, with the sun out again, we took a sail on a catamaran – billed as a “champagne sunset cruise”, the bar opened as soon as we boarded, and we indulged in the local Piton beer. Not 30 minutes into the ride, we encountered a large pod of dolphins. The captain changed course to converge with them, and suddenly we were surrounded by frolicking dolphins playing off the bow our our boat.

A magical end to a magical start of our adventure.
